Google form Daily check in

1/30/2022

Picture
Morning check in's are a great way for teachers to check in with students, see how they are feeling, how their night was or anything to help start the day well. I create mine on Google forms, display a QR code linked to the google form and students complete it upon their arrival to class. There are different google forms I use, depending on the day of the week, what is coming up and how students are feeling. I use a daily check in on most days, with the Monday and Friday check in's being different.

Find a copy to each of the main check in's I use that you can make copies of and use in your classroom too!
Grab a copy of my Google form check in templates below! Free to use in your classroom too!

Stage 1-5 Google forms

Picture
In 2020 over lockdown, I wanted to find a way to keep my kiddies engaged but also focused on their maths. With the way things were, I didn't want to put pressure on families either. So i created these google forms that match up to number strategies within Stage 1-5 of the New Zealand curriculum within Maths. Each google form has 10 questions linked to the strategy, and provides a score and answers they got incorrect. These can be used in lots of different ways in the classroom - as an activity, buddy activity, summative assessment, exit slip, hot spot and more!
All of these are available for free to use. They aren't editable but are a great activity to include in your classroom. I recently updated these to have them as QR codes for littles who might not be able to type in a bit.ly URL. You can download those free below.

How to manage your workload

11/28/2021

At the beginning of 2021, I published a series of posts highlighting key areas for beginning teachers. These featured a wide range of posts like reading, writing, behaviour management - with one being managing workload.
I shared a little into a way that you can manage your workload and divide your tasks or activities into four categories:
  • urgent and important
  • not urgent and important
  • urgent and not important
  • not urgent and not important
This helps those of you that like to have structure but need it separated a little to help you.
So I have fancied up my anchor chart and also provided a planning template that can be printed and used to help you categorise your life!
Picture
I have also created a range of Google Keep headers to match this type of format if this is something you are looking to switch too. These are free to download via the link below.

5 simple ideas to use Google apps in your classroom

6/17/2020

Picture
Google apps are a great tool to use in the classroom - regardless of your age of students. They are free to use, multi-purpose and allow for creative opportunities in the classroom. Google incorporates a range of apps like docs, sheets, slides, drawings, sites and more! Each of these can be used in many different ways depending on your age and students you teach. Here I will share five simple ideas for using Google in your classroom!

1. Google forms
Google forms are a great tool for gathering voice, ideas and surveys. A multi-purpose tool that can be designed for lots of different learning opportunities. Some ways are:
  • Morning check ins
  • Collecting data
  • Maths time
  • Student choice in learning
  • Workshops
  • Fun tests
Picture
I have used Google forms for lots of different curriculum areas, especially in maths or data gathering. I love using it to gather voice and then create data sheets to show the information that is displayed. Check out a few examples of Google forms in use below.

2. Voice typing
Voice typing is an amazing tool that can help all students to record and type their learning. You press the voice record and dictate your sentences into your device. Voice typing will record your sentences and type them for you.
Voice typing is great for students that struggle to write, ELL's, time saver students or teachers, sharing ideas ideas from multiple people and even dictating on the go.

Watch this simple video on how it works.

3. Google sheets
Google sheets is an amazing hidden gem that can be used in so many different ways. I love how you can present information, share findings and create sheets to document/analyse learning.  I have been exploring different features and tech tips with Google sheets recently that you might find interesting! I want to explore the use of conditional formatting so will share more of that once I have done it!

4. Emoji bullets
I love using emojis - i use them all the time in my classroom, resources and materials. My kids love helping me choose which ones to use, with their being heaps to choose from! I recently shared about this in my What's 'App'-ening newsletter and made a quick explanation video showing you how to do it also. See it below to add this excitement to your classroom or resources too.
Picture

5. Google Calendar
Of course a calendar app is a great way to keep your life in line. Google calendar integrates with your other apps, appearing down the right hand side of your dashboard now when using Google apps. You can click on it to add appointments, schedule items, events and more!
You can even invite others onto your calendar invites and include video conferencing for meetings that are online. It integrates great with Zoom and Google meet. Check out my two handy videos that could help you using Google calendar too.

Some of the objects have links to videos students watch to get letter clues. Each of the successful videos give a letter that is used to unscramble a word! Once they have found all 8 letters, students can unscramble their letters to guess a word, entering it into the google form!

Using google slides for home learning or distant learning activities? I have a range of resources and activities on my Teachers Pay Teachers store that might help! Why recreate when it is already there? Check them out below with even a preview of how each one works.
Ice-cream addition and subtraction: this activity is great practice for students who are adding and subtracting to 10/20. There is a number line to help them and the ice-cream can be used to help count forwards to back along the line.

Word families: this activity is great for learning about word families. Simply drag the words to the right family.

Build a word: use the word tiles to build a word they know! There are 3 variations to be able to spell different words.

High Frequency words: drag the right colour dot to the word it tells you! Great for word recall.

Numbers 1-20: this interactive one has a space for students to find the right number, type the number and then drag the right amount of dots to create the number.

The one on the left is new for my class in 2020. I have the date, a bitmoji and then key information I need my students to know for the day on the left. This is what I will use on the first day of school.
The one on the right is my one from 2019. It has the date, a GIF, a space for a message of the day and then stickies on the right for snippet key information on the right.

Both of these are great ways to share information in the morning. Make a copy of these templates above on the links!

Google sheets drop down planning templates

Did you know you can create drop down boxes on Google sheets that change attached pictures with your selection?
Over the weekend, a colleague and I worked together to create this great new planning template on Google sheets. It has drop down selections that you can choose from, that change a matching icon picture alongside it. Great for planning for students to view and make sense of a tumble. Each picture is colour coded to go alongside with the planning template; and either my Daily 5 resources of my PRISM maths concept resource.
Picture

These are not customisable templates. However they have all the information you need to successfully go alongside my Daily 5 and PRISM resources. Simply purchase and download the resource, make a copy of it and save it to your Google drive. How I will use it is to duplicate the template for each day of the week, add in the resources or WALHTs that are related and display this on my activeboard. Students will be able to see their group and follow the activities that are set in the tumble. Check out the links below for videos and how you can purchase these resources.

With these planning templates, my favourite is the Google sheets version as I have them all in one Google sheets workbook for each term. Check out this video showing you each of the planning templates included in the resource.

Over the past few years I have worked on pdfs and ibooks that aim to transfer idea, knowledge and skill about key software or apps that I have used. I love sharing my work and ideas with others and another way of doing that is through ibooks. These are pdfs that I have created and released on Apple ibooks for educators to read and access from all over the world.

Check out five of the ones I have released and created:

8 Engaging Ways to use Technology in the classroom
