During lockdown, I wanted to create an example of what parents can expect writing to look like. Due to the progression of students writing over time, it can sometimes be hard for parents, teachers and students to know how it can progress.

So I created these writing example models to help show what the progression of writing COULD look like. It covers the first 1-2 years of writing and identifies key ideas or information in each writing example.
These are free to download to use in your classroom or at home to show how writing can progress. Download these below!

Writing Example Models

Writing Example Models

These writing example models were made for the lockdown earlier this year. The purpose behind them was to show parents the progression of writing and what to expect from students at home; or when learning how to write.

These example models have since been a popular requested item to download for the classroom also. Perfect for showing students how writing changes, improves and new things are learnt and applied in writing.

This covers the general progression of writing over the first 1-2 years of school. It includes 6 writing example models.

Popplet - have you used it before?

Picture
Popplet is a great free app that allows students to create brainstorms or mind maps. There are tools to type, draw and insert pictures to explain their thinking and create a place for ideas.
It is great for young learners and older learners - easy to navigate and straight forward to use.
You can even share the popplet onto places like Seesaw to share the learning wider than the classroom. Great way to keep parents in the loop. This week my students created a simple mind map about unicycles as a response from their story. My students then saved their responses and uploaded them onto Seesaw. I can give feedback online but also in person.

How would I use this? I use Popplet for lots of follow up and mind mapping activities! Here are some:
  • book descriptions
  • mind mapping of key ideas
  • explanations
  • book responses
  • idea documenting
  • number mapping
and more!
