Picture
This week I shared a freebie resource - perfect for junior students! It is animal report writing themed - with sentence frames to help students frame their thoughts and ideas with animal report writing.

There are 10 different animals in this resource that have both a picture or picture space provided. Each animal has sentence prompts for can/have/are. Great for exploring facts about an animal in report writing style.

This freebie is perfect for any students beginning their journey and needing a few tips.
You can even extend your students to using the template on Seesaw (as pictured below left) or used in writing lessons with guided teaching. I love the opportunities this allows for students to build on scaffolded knowledge; so they aren't completely stumped but also being extended. Download the freebie and also full resources below to use these in your classroom!

Animal report anchor chart Freebie

Im starting animal reports this term with my kiddies. This will be a combination of New Zealand animals and insects; moving onto dinosaurs later in the term; with students then applying their learning to create their own imaginary animal or report on their own.

For each genre or topic I study, I create and use anchor charts to help display key ideas, notions or important elements with my students. This makes it more real, relevant and relatable for applying the learning.

Download this freebie anchor chart below! A great introduction to the learning for your class, kiddies and wall display! Or purchase the full resource which has templates, resources and more to unpack animal reports! Even better - it includes New Zealand animals and insects!

How can you read a book? Freebie!

Picture
A big part of our 'read to self' and 'read to someone' this year was looking at the ways we can read a book. Students were very aware that they might not be able to read the words, leaving them feeling sad and uninterested in reading.
So we spent ALOT of talking about how you can read the pictures to help you make a guess or inference about what the story might be about. This freebie anchor chart might help you and your students remember how they can also read books when completing read to self or read to someone.

Why use end of day reflection?
End of day reflection time is a great way for students to talk through the day. Its a great time to reflect on the positives, goal set for the next day or just have conversations to debrief. I have done end of day reflection for years and my students find it a great way to hear from everyone. I also love hearing from students that might not have spoken or shared during the day.
End of day reflection is a great thing to add into your daily classroom timetable - I allocate 5-10 minutes right before bell and it sets everyone up for a great afternoon! Have a try and let me know how you go!
