I love Simplify my home. I use them at home for all of my pantry and fridge needs. I was looking at my maths area last term and thought....this needs a redo! But how and with what?
I was scrolling on instagram and then thought - yes! Simplify my home containers!

Now this isn't sponsored at all - I paid for these with my own money! But boy it was worth the investment.
    Picture

I got the push containers pack bundle which comes with a variety of push top containers and baskets. The sizes are perfect for all of your classroom needs - in particular I wanted to plan for my maths equipment.
They are sturdy, easy to use, moveable and clear meaning my students can see what is each of them at a glance.
You too can use these in your classroom - this is the bundle I brought!

So modelling books have been something I have shared about a lot over on Instagram. It wasn't until this year, that I really thought about providing more insight into how I use them & offer more tips for those teachers who might not have any idea on how to get these going in the classroom.
    Picture
Are you looking for a tool to SUPPORT learning?
Are you looking for a way to ENGAGE students in learning?
Are you looking for a way to make learning VISIBLE?

Then use modelling books to enhance learning, provide discussion support & model the strategies or learning for students.
    Picture
    Picture
So I created Model For Me - the mini course. A short, sharp look into modelling books, examples from my practice, my top 5 tips for setting them up & everything modelling books in between! Such an easy way to learn about something new & build confidence for your classroom practice. I even touch on digital modelling books which is great for those teachers looking to make more of a digital modelling book shift!

On Instagram this week there has been lots of questions about planning! How to best plan, how to plan in general, ways to streamline.
So late last night when I was up for Ephron teething I mapped out this 'how to plan' tip sheet for teachers to use to help with planning!

Every school and teacher plans differently so keep that in mind when reading this! It is always very confronting sharing how you do things and people tend to always look for negatives.
This is how I work; this is what works for me.

I always spend a long time in the holidays creating really decent long term plans so that my planning throughout the term doesn't become tiresome or tricky.

    Letter reversals p and q

    4/10/2022

Do your students get confused between p and q and which why they face?

This is the second letter reversal anchor chart I have created to help with letters that are commonly reversed or written backwards. So I made this letter reversal resource that you can use in your classroom too.

The p starts with a pencil - so the hanging stick first and then the q starts with a queen - so the circle part first.

    Why i teach? Folder

    3/22/2022

Sometimes we feel down and have lots going on in our minds so we need a reminder of why we teach. Why we keep going and push through even when we are feeling down.
I saw this idea on Instagram where you keep a folder of all of the cards, precious creations, pictures and drawings made for you. When you are feeling overwhelmed or needing a reminder of why you teach; read through it and come back to those special memories.
    Picture
I just used a white folder from Kmart I had lying around my classroom and created a cover sheet with some inspirational quotes on the inside. Then used clear files to add in all the pictures and things that I want to reflect back on and remember.
You can make one too - use my cover page below!

With the changes to how students read, parents are needing to think about the support they provide at home. No longer do we say look at the picture and make a guess; or try the word - what do you think? Structured literacy has given us the tools to help students decode the words by thinking about the sounds, segmenting the sounds, blending them together and then saying the word.

This helpful poster is perfect for parents or even for in the classroom to remind students about how they can decode the word. No more guessing!

    Structured literacy sequence freebie

If you are new to structured literacy, you might need a reminder of the sequence in your lessons. There can be a lot; and at times it might seem overwhelming! But this helpful sequence might help you. I did not create this - thanks to the amazing Kirsten Main (RTLB) who put this together as her take. I just made it look pretty - her one is much more comprehensive so this one works well for me.

Of course in a lesson I wouldn't do all of it. I always start my lesson with the same things - usually the top five of this sequence and then chop and change between the bottom ones. I like to keep things interesting so kiddies don't get bored.
