I just released my first ever ebook on iTunes for teachers looking to get started using Seesaw! Super exciting, yet scary to put myself out there like that and write something for others to read.
This overview ebook was made to make Seesaw use and integration simple and easy for educators all over the world. Sometimes learning from a video or online webinar doesn't really make learning clear. So I have spent some time really thinking about how you can make it work for yourself with this overview. This overview covers all Seesaw aspects and is FREE to download from iTunes! If you are interested in reading this ebook, click here for the download link >> Seesaw: An overview for Teachers Does your students use goal setting to help monitor their progress and next learning steps?
My class use personalised goals to help track their next learning steps and promote further learning. Each child has their own learning goal which is chosen after discussion with the teacher. We find gaps in their learning taken from our school writing progressions and write it down on a writing goal card. These are attached to their writing books so students can keep their goal in their minds while writing. Students then conference with the teacher after writing to see if they can find evidence of their goal in their work. If they do, they receive a sticker and after 5 stickers they can discuss a new goal with me. There goals are also on a writing board so I can keep track of where they are and who is working on which goal. When I complete teacher conferences, I do my groupings on their goals and those skills they are working on. Each child has a little coloured version of their face on their goal so I can see who is where. This is displayed near my teacher table and has picture cues (for child recognition) and also a key for when marking their books. If you would like a free copy of my writing goal template, access that in my giant google drive folder. Alternatively, the click to make a copy is here >> Writing Goal Template Bitmoji is by far the coolest google chrome extension that you can use and integrate into all aspects of your teaching and learning! There are so many ways you can use it, and today I am going to quickly show you a few ways I love to use Bitmoji in my teaching resources! I created a Bitmoji certificate template on Google Slides that you can make a copy of, and add your Bitmojis too! These are great instead of the usual boring certificates you might already use. There are 8 different certificate templates already pre made, with the opportunity for you to copy the template and make more of your own! The current ones are: -determination award -rockin' reader award -marvellous maths award -sportsmanship award -happy helper award -creativity award -growth mindset award -perseverance award Download the resources here from my Teachers Pay Teachers store >> Bitmoji Certificate Template Alongside the certificates, you can make these awesome Bitmoji bookmarks as rewards for your class members! Who doesn't love Class Dojo! Class Dojo is amazing for behaviour management and class incentives. It is a great way to monitor what is happening in class and encouraging your children to make great choices during the day. Check out Class Dojo here if you haven't already come across it yet >> https://www.classdojo.com/ In my class we use Class Dojo everyday and have small incentives to achieve along the way. Following on from that, I decided to create a more visual display of the rewards for students to achieve. These posters clearly show these rewards and at which increments they will be achieved. There are two ways you can use this resource! Simply download and use the pdf posters already created. Alternatively, if you wanted to add your own increments or rewards, click on the link on the first page of the pdf to be taken to the google drawing templates online. You can then make a copy and change/edit to your own class needs! Find the link to the resource here from Teachers Pay Teachers >> Class Dojo Posters I do requests! This is apart of my website that I am so happy to share and connect to help other educators across the world.
If there is anything you were after, or something specific please let me know so I can see if I can help! Send me an email at info@mrspriestleyict.com with some pictures or an outline of what you are after. Or send me a DM on Facebook. With a room full of 23 children, each with different needs and strengths it can be tricky to make sure everyone gets the attention, help or feedback provided on their learning. For my inquiry goal, I am working on identifying students needs in writing and helping build their own reflection skills to identify if they need teacher help before I ask them. As I can't always get to all the children, I want to help build a mindset where if they need help, they can use a feedback strategy or exit slip that I designed to help let me know.
So i designed a feedback and exit slip area to help encourage my students to ask for help when needed. It is a 3 levelled system that you may have seen around or have something similar. Green: "I get it" This is for students who understand their learning and have no issues with their work. Orange: "Im getting there" This is for students who think they are ok for now but might need some work. Check in with them to make sure. Red: "I need some help" This is for students who need some help now and should work with the teacher to help with the learning. My students are working on identifying how they feel about their learning and choose the option they think works for them. Today I was working with a group working on making sure they used a full stop at the end of their idea. This student went a grabbed a "i get it" prompt to let me know she understood the learning and no longer needed my help. She was able to move away to continue writing independently. This student was working in the same group but still wanted some more help just to be sure. Without prompting, she went and got the "im getting there" prompt and I knew to check in with her a few times. Another of my students was working independently on his work. I roamed the room and saw the "i need some help" prompt. This let me know I needed to help him on his writing and he came to my teacher table. These are easy to use once your students have been taught and are confident being able to talk about their learning. My students here are 5/6/7 years old so they can be trained from any age. If you are interested in using these, they are part of my Feedback and Exit Slip Bundle available for purchase on my Teachers Pay Teachers Store, or use my code 'feedback' for a discount on your purchase from my website. Hapara is a fantastic tool for teachers to manage sharing documents with their students. It allows you to create classes that you assign your students too, showing you insight into their google drive, documents, emails and shared documents. You can even see what your students are working on their screen!
If you have not yet heard of Hapara check out their website here for information: Hapara.com Hapara is great for differentiated instruction. It makes learning visible and can increase learner agency of their work. Hapara workspace is the Google Classroom equivalent - allowing your students to work in a space, sharing their work, rubrics and evidence in one place. I recently ran a quick PLD session at my school introducing some of the features to my teachers. As we use both Google Classroom and Hapara, the teachers at my school need to make sure they have sufficient knowledge using both to be able to make an informed decision for what works best for them. Check out the link here to my PLD slides to have a look yourself >> Using Hapara in your classroom PLD Seesaw is a fantastic way to share student learning with family members, the community and others across the world. The features Seesaw has enables endless possibilities within learning and make it an amazing tool for the classroom.
In my classroom, I have a Seesaw station where students can go to for help or prompting if they forget what the tools are. That helps my students develop their own responsibility for their actions, knowing they can go somewhere for help instead of always asking me. It also has copies of other relevant Seesaw information that my students might value or use. Last year, I came across some Seesaw visual prompts on Twitter that I currently use in my classroom (see above picture). These were designed by Pana Asavavatana - click on the link to view and download her version. As Seesaw has developed, so has its features. So I have created my own Seesaw visual prompts including some more prompts to help students in the classroom. Since photographing my Seesaw station I have added my new ones to the mix! My prompts are free from my Teachers Pay Teachers Store >> Seesaw Visual Prompts. Simply download and print, laminate and create your own Seesaw station too!
