1. Prior to reading - the first thing is making sure you have selected the appropriate text based on the sound or grapheme you are focusing on. 2. Segmenting and blending - this is focusing on the words in the text. Practicing segmenting them out and blending them together. This is practiced continuously to build confidence and skill with the sound. 3. Tricky words - reading the tricky words as 'fast words'. Lots of reading over them and practicing these so when they are recognised in the text students can say them quickly. 4. After reading - just like every other guided reading session; talk about the text and have students respond to what was covered.
