I hear it all too often. That younger children can't use a device or complete work on a device without lots of help and support from the teacher.
And you know what? You are wrong! Part of my job is to teach and show others how easy it can be to use devices in your lessons in a meaningful way! Here is an example of how you can easily make this happen!
For writing we have been researching about minibeasts and animals that live in our nature trail at school. Everyone has different opinions and likes so I decided to get them to choose their favourite mini beast or animal that they know lives in our nature garden and then one they wish lived in there, sharing this information on Padlet. Padlet is fantastic for mind mapping , brainstorming and collaborative work. They needed to choose a minibeast or animal, find an appropriate picture then add some information about it off the internet. I air played the padlet board I made to the TV so they could see their ideas and research being added LIVE! The padlet join code was on the TV too so students could scan in to the padlet off the ipad.
They each got a turn to add their ideas, worked together collaboratively on the device practicing taking turns, sharing their ideas and justifying their information. Lessons and activities on devices don't need to be too complicated! This is the perfect way to gather information in a fun way that is engaging and redefining the learning experience.
