Structured Maths Approach - a structured maths scope and sequence for teachers and students in Year 0-3.
A structured scope and sequence serves as the backbone of effective teaching and learning. It provides teachers with a clear roadmap, ensuring that each concept builds upon the foundation laid before it. By carefully sequencing mathematical topics and activities, we empower our young learners to gradually develop their skills and confidence. With a well-organized structure, teachers can create a supportive learning environment that allows students to thrive, leading to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.
Split into four phases, giving a comprehensive unpacking for students in the classroom.
Phase one is best suited for Year 0 / New Entrant classrooms; or students beginning their mathematics journey.
Phase One covers four chunks of learning:

Lesson 1: Identify, say and name numbers 1-10
Lesson 2: FNWS to 10
Lesson 3: 1:1 counting
Lesson 4: BNWS from 10
Lesson 5: Ordering numbers 1-10
Lesson 6: Counting a numbered set to 10
Lesson 7: Comparing numbers to 10
Lesson 8: Representations of 1-10
Chunk 2
Lesson 9: Adding to 5
Lesson 10: Subtracting from 5
Lesson 11: Word problems to 5
Lesson 12: Number bonds to 5
Lesson 13: Fluency to 5
Chunk 3
Lesson 14: Identify, say and name numbers 1-20
Lesson 15: Identify teen numbers
Lesson 16: FNWS to 20
Lesson 17: BNWS from 20
Lesson 18: Ordering numbers 1-20
Lesson 19: Counting a numbered set to 20

Lesson 22: Skip counting to 100 (2’s, 5’s, 10’s)
