Swat the word

I love a great word game/activity that increases student word knowledge and quick recall. I am always looking for new ways that engage students and this was definitley one of them. Last week I was scrolling on facebook and saw something similar happening in a classroom. I then created my own activity that my students could complete in class to practice this!

So how does it work? I set up my 'Swat the word' slide deck on the TV or activeboard to use in the lesson. I call out a word (or a different word for each student) and they come and swat the word. It could be doing a challenge also so in this video, crawling under the table to get to the word first. This could be turned into a friendly game or challenge; or with further challenges to make it more exciting or intense.
