Reflection of ulearn 19

This week I was lucky to attend the Ulearn19 conference at Rotorua, New Zealand. It was an action packed three days of meeting new people, learning new ideas and gather information/resources to bring back to my school and other teachers. I was also fortunate to be able to present two workshops as well which I will share the links again for today. This website post shares some of the key ideas and takeaways from the sessions I attended.

21st century skills that should be taught in the classroom
As education is changing, we need to prepare students for jobs that are do not currently exist or are being implemented slowly. This means helping our students build key skills to take them into the 21st century and be successful,.

Future of learning
This amazing infographic is a great way of showing the future of learning. This encompasses key ideas around technology 4 learning, research 4 learning, environment 4 learning and assessment 4 learning. Click on the picture for the link.

Student Agency through Inquiry
This session was hands down the best I have been to. A fantastic insight into inquiry, how students can become leaders and change makers of their learning; and bringing in provocation/exploration time to really explore learning opportunities for themselves. “Utilising technology to create change” - Building student capabilities in writing and reading
This session was a fabulous session around using Apple products and keynote to engage students in their learning and create purposeful end products. Jo Weldon shared some amazing examples from her classroom so click on the picture for the link to her presentation (this will take you to a google link to her keynote presentation).

Augmented Reality
Augmented reality or AR is a new, engaging way of bringing new possibilities into the classroom. Apple leaders shared key AR examples of how teachers can introduce these ideas into the classroom in meaningful ways - along with templates and lesson examples (like this one attached).
This example explained how you can use AR Makr to bring real world examples into the classroom.

Check out the lesson card templates here. Or search the collection of AR apps on the app store.

Play based learning
Play is important for many reasons, being incorporated and used in founding ways in the classroom. Some key skills that can be developed through a play based learning approach are:
-Managing information

-Work with others

-Be creative

-Self-manage

-Thinking, solve problems and make decisions.

A play based learning approach is a great way to get students to engage learners on a deeper level.

Digital Badging
I went to an amazing lunch time session from a friend Michael Davidson who shared his knowledge of setting up digital badging for his school. Digital badges are a great way for students and teachers to gain awards for work they do. Check out his link via the picture on how it works and can get set up.

Seesaw
I presented two presentations on Seesaw within the classroom. The first one was using seesaw portfolios for assessment with aspects like seesaw skills, activities and fluency checks. The second was using seesaw within literacy and maths - providing teachers with links, templates and ideas on how to create activities around literacy and maths. Click on the photos below for links to the presentations.
