No longer do we say look at the picture and make a guess; or try the word - what do you think? Structured literacy sequence freebie

2/23/2022

Picture
If you are new to structured literacy, you might need a reminder of the sequence in your lessons. There can be a lot; and at times it might seem overwhelming! But this helpful sequence might help you. I did not create this - thanks to the amazing Kirsten Main (RTLB) who put this together as her take. I just made it look pretty - her one is much more comprehensive so this one works well for me.

Of course in a lesson I wouldn't do all of it. I always start my lesson with the same things - usually the top five of this sequence and then chop and change between the bottom ones. I like to keep things interesting so kiddies don't get bored.

So many people have asked how I made this organisation fridge magnet which I shared over Instagram this weekend. One of our school values is 'be prepared' and I wanted to try help my kiddies achieve success in this area. So I made this table, added in some pictures off Google, printed and laminated then added a magnet.
This can be added to their home fridge or blue tacked on their door or in their room! Something easy to create but effective in its purpose!

Find the table template below to add in your own pictures - simply upload it to google slides or powerpoint then add on your chosen images and text!

Google form Daily check in

Morning check in's are a great way for teachers to check in with students, see how they are feeling, how their night was or anything to help start the day well. I create mine on Google forms, display a QR code linked to the google form and students complete it upon their arrival to class. There are different google forms I use, depending on the day of the week, what is coming up and how students are feeling. I use a daily check in on most days, with the Monday and Friday check in's being different.

Find a copy to each of the main check in's I use that you can make copies of and use in your classroom too!

Stage 1-5 Google forms

1/7/2022

Picture
In 2020 over lockdown, I wanted to find a way to keep my kiddies engaged but also focused on their maths. With the way things were, I didn't want to put pressure on families either. So i created these google forms that match up to number strategies within Stage 1-5 of the New Zealand curriculum within Maths. Each google form has 10 questions linked to the strategy, and provides a score and answers they got incorrect. These can be used in lots of different ways in the classroom - as an activity, buddy activity, summative assessment, exit slip, hot spot and more!
All of these are available for free to use. They aren't editable but are a great activity to include in your classroom. I recently updated these to have them as QR codes for littles who might not be able to type in a bit.ly URL. You can download those free below.

Sound it out to Space

NZ$4.00

Sound it out to Space

This activity is a great alternative to phoneme box sounding out. It is fun, engaging and hands on with kiddies being able to map out each sound before blending them together. With a space theme, this has phoneme stars with a space background and uses a spaceship/rocket as the moving piece.

How does it work?

Kiddies use the phoneme star mat and spaceship. Kiddies use words they have provided by their teacher, and move the spaceship each phoneme star whilst saying it out loud. Then once they get to the blend it star, they blend the sounds together to say the word. For reinforcement, kiddies can then write it down on the recording sheet.

This resource includes 4 different variation mats for 3/4/5 phoneme words.

This resource includes 21 pages.

**It does not include words - teachers are able to use/provide the word lists that best match their kiddies learning and needs.

Happy grams!!! A quick and cute note for parents on how the day has gone. With so many things that go on during the day, it can be hard to make contact with parents to let them know about the amazing things their child might have done! Could be around attitude, perseverance, assessment or just a general awesome day!

How does the happy gram work?
You write the name of the student, tick or write what they did today that was amazing and send it home with the student. Sometimes if the student has done something that isn't listed, I will just write it on the back. I also like to elaborate sometimes with more information on the back too!

This could be used in so many ways and to cover various times of the day!
