Playful learning

This year I have made an active point to include play into my classroom. Teaching Year 0-3 students, it is part of our everyday learning to build on those key skills and learning opportunities. I have a few things in place that work towards this - sharing a few of these below in this post! Call it what you want, playful, play-based, learning through play is an amazing aspect to have in the classroom.
Learning through play is a pedagogical approach where play is the valued mode of learning – where children can explore, experiment, discover, and solve problems in imaginative and playful ways. Learning through play is also called play-based learning. - NZ Curriculum TKI

This is a list of learning provocations that I created around four key themes that I believe are important in class. Sensory, cognitive, pretend (or dramatic) and fine motor.

I make a conscious effort to plan for playful learning in my classroom. Here i document what I am working on with key competencies, te whariki principles and school values. I write down what provocations I am using and then who I am observing as well over the week.
This is a playful learning observation template that has four different worded templates (depending on what you call it). This has an observation template where you can track the observations being made of the child.
