My classroom 2020

2020 has brought about many new changes already! One being at a new school - National Park School, about 30 minutes drive from Taumarunui. The other change is that I will be teaching Year 0-3 students. We are a two classroom school so I will be teaching all the junior students which I am super excited about.

This post will share bits from my classroom as I have it currently set up. I will include links where possible to allow for you to find these resources for your classroom too.

WOW work wall!
I love a good wow work wall as it provides a clear place in class for student work to go. This one is on my back wall created with different pieces of colour card, two pegs super glued on and a title. Easy to create, cost effective but awesome!
Discovery table
I have had a discovery table for the last 4 years in my classroom. I didn't have one last year as I taught Year 3's, but have had one in every classroom before that.
A discovery table is easy to create - involving lots of hands on equipment students can use to 'discover' things. Mine has a range of things on there to explore:
-topic books
-dinosaurs and small creatures/animals
-shells
-plants
-microscopes
-clipboards for drawing and/or documenting facts.

Lots of these resources are from sparklebox and my local $2 shop. Shells are from the beach!

Word wall
A word wall is a great activity for reading and writing time! One can be put up anywhere in your classroom and integrated into rotation time. This one was created with words laminated and then blue tacked to the sink doors.
The word rings are hung above and students can use these to find the words on the wall. My students always love playing teachers with the word wall, telling each other what words to
First day questions
These first day questions are a great way to get to know your students. Each letter of the word 'first day' has a corresponding question that you can use in your classroom.
Use this in a whole class circle time, small groups or even in buddies.

Writing board
I am so lucky to have two extra sections on my board so I dedicated one to solely writing! I have the date up the top and also the prelined whiteboard sheet that I brought last year from Creative Classrooms.
I also have put up my writing process pictures on the right so we can follow the process and visually see what we are working on. This is clear with examples and prompting sentences to help my students follow the process.

Get the resource here.
Word wall posters
This is shot of my writing and back wall area, with my word wall posters underneath. Word posters are a great way to keep track and add key words that you learn or know over the year. I keep mine up all year and add to them when we have our letter of the week study and writing sessions!

Door Posters
I have used resources from Lauren Fairclough from Teachers Pay Teachers before. These door posters are a great way to welcome students into the classroom + provide a positive affirmation or saying to get them going!

Find the resource here.
Reading area
My reading area is always a cosy nook with loads of books students can choose from. I also have my listen to reading QR codes there for students to go to to hear the stories.
I have lots of pillows and random sitting things from kmart. There is a rack for hanging books on plus a bench seat made from two small bookshelves glued together.

Find more information on QR codes here.

Play area
I have this great little space out the back of my room where my students place there bags. But I thought why not further use it as a pull out/play space. So I have created a puppet theatre, supermarket and play area for students to use.
This will be integrated into our learning time through provocations and meaningful play experiences.

Sign was downloaded from Sparklebox.
Other print out resources from Teachers Pay Teachers.

This is just a snippet of my classroom with so many pictures I could upload and share! If you see a resource or idea on something I haven't talked about please message me or comment on here and I will answer the best I can!

Wow amazing! Lots of great ideas to ‘borrow’. Your classroom looks fab and your new school is going to love having you.
