Each of these have activities and explanations that align with it to ensure students get coverage of all the aspects in maths. Sometimes it can be hard to think of activities for students to do. But this concept aims at providing you with everything you need to make that happen! PRISM was implemented in my classroom at the beginning of 2019 and students worked through learning all the key concepts slowly like you would any other concept or idea. In this resource, there are additional anchor charts which can be used while unpacking each of the concepts so students and teachers know both of the expectations for each aspect within PRISM.

It's the end of 2019 and 2020 will be here very shortly. I love to be organised and have some idea of what I might do in the new year - looking for resources, new ideas for the classroom and downloading/printing things that I know I will use. Check out this quick website post sharing some of my personal resources that I will use in the classroom for 2020! Purchase them now while they are on sale.
Plus loads more resources, games, worksheets and bundles that you could use in lots of different areas in the classroom! Find them on my Teachers Pay Teachers Store.
There are loads for free including the VIP free section of my website and Google Drive shared resource library. Find the links below! Money is always a fabulous fun concept to teach, with so many resources out there to make it happen! Last year, I developed my own money pack (in NZ$) for my students and others across the country. Full of interactive games, activities and resources to implement concepts about money. Today I started the beginning of this unit pack again, using some of the initial activities to implement key money concepts. My students had lots of fun and were able to interact with money in a way they hadn't before. Lots of my students didn't even know all the coins!! This resource below is what I used to teach from. It has a variety of games and activities that students can use in whole class, group or individual work to learn key money concepts. The one pictured above I used as a whole class buddy activity, where they needed to find the buddy in the room that had the matching coin. There is also a preview of another activity in the pack that I used in a lesson also. I have a few different money resources available on my Teachers Pay Teachers store so have a look at it if you think it might be something you are after. Lots of fun, opportunities to learn and be engaged in the concept of maths.
I designed these maths thinking boards to originally be used with Seesaw. But after thinking about the resource, I thought they would be awesome to use in maths both online and offline. These have different sections for students to show their learning and strategies to solving problems. These thinking boards are for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division - each with key sections to show different ways of answering the question. Today we used an addition one in peers. Students worked together to solve the problem and shared their learning in any way they wanted with the prompts. It is a great way to practice number sentences and number stories too.
This is a great way to get students talking about maths, and work great alongside number talks. Check out my previous website post unpacking number talks here. This resource is free for you to download from my teachers pay teachers store. Or head over to the VIP section of my website for the pdf (and loads more) for you to get today!
In this pack, you will receive maths prompts that vary up to 20. Each prompt has the answer at the top and corresponding picture clip art to help students create a number sentence and/or number story to solve the answer. These can be displayed on your TV or projector for students to view, and then students can solve it any way possible. My students complete this in pairs which are mixed ability so that each student has a place in the activity.

How often do you just use google forms for gathering information or a survey? There are actually so many different ways you can really utilise and make learning interesting with google apps - especially google forms. Check out my most recent website post showing you how you can use google forms to create your own adventure story. This post will quickly show you how you can create your own exit slip or interactive practice form with maths and your times tables! Students could use this as a follow up activity, practice time activity or exit slip to reinforce their learning that is done with the teacher. To begin with I chose a video for students to practice their 5 times tables before beginning the questions. When ready they can click next. You then create each question that you would like as a new section. You use the multiple choice feature and fill in the answer/wrong answers that can be chosen from. Once you have done this then you need to turn on the 'go to next section based on answer' feature underneath each section. Once you have turned on the feature, it will show a drop down box of all the options and you can then choose where you want the question to go. This will then take your students to either the next question, or a quick video that will show them how to work it out. I create quick seesaw videos showing my working out on how to figure out the question.
These google forms can be as short, long or complicated as you like or have time to make. But these are great fun and an engaging way to get students involved.
Have a go at my 5 times tables google form here! **Thanks to Jacinta Keenan for the idea. I always love using technology in engaging ways throughout all my lessons. One great app that integrates devices in a collaborative yet exciting way is Kahoot! Kahoot is a hands on, engaging and interactive app/website that provides game based quizzes for students to play. The teacher (or student) sets up the game and students join using a pin. They can play in individual mode or team mode. Students can choose a nickname or team name and are ready to play!
Today's sunday spotlight is a quick video showing how you can use exit slips in your class. These are a great end of lesson way for students (and the teacher) to view how the student found the learning and check if they need some more support. There is also a self-reflection face at the bottom for students to fill in. This provides further insight into the lesson and how they found it. I use these for maths at the moment and have some pre-made (like the video example) with some questions linked into their learning outcomes. I also have blank ones where I will hand write the learning intention on and have students just write their own evidence on the maths exit slip dependent on the lesson activities.
You can create your own exit slips very easily, or use my templates! Find them both below! On the weekend I was fortunate to attend the annual Maths Conference in Auckland led by the Maths Association. This is always a great opportunity to learn from others and hear some new ideas when implementing maths in class. This maths conference had me leaving with two main ideas that I want to share with you.
I really wanted to get more of a gauge on how students are going in their learning so created this blank template to go alongside any lesson. I also created specific exit slips for our PR1ME levels but these are based on the 1A and 1B books. Each exit slip has a space for their name, date, show their working, I can space (for the learning intention) and then a reflection smiley face. I will have students attach these to their books (if they are doing this after a follow up) or once working with me. I really love the potential this can have and can't wait to report back with more information once I have been using this a bit more! Download this file below to get it going in your class! Want some customisable ones? Let me know info@mrspriestleyict.com
For the past few years I have created templates that my students (and others across the world) have used for different purposes in learning. Number knowledge, addition, subtraction, spelling practice, word of the week and more! I still have them in seperate slides but really wanted to find a way of making it easier for others to access.
So i put them together in one place >> bit.ly/mrspriestleyictseesawlibrary Check it out if you're looking for some templates to use in Seesaw! |
