Since coming back from the lockdown, I have continued to run a choice board similar to our home learning one that I had underway for distant learning. It involved a must-do and you pick activities students can use and choose from in their learning. I really wanted it to be a smooth transition back into the classroom so have continued this for the last two weeks. I have seen so much more engagement from my students and general enthusiasm for learning from them. So how does it work? Each week I provide 4 must-do activities for my students to complete in our literacy block. These are activities that must be completed by the end of the week. Students can choose which one they do, when they do them and what other activities they want to complete after or before. My students have completed these in varying orders with some completing all the must-dos on Monday and then using the other three days to have free pick. Others have left it all to the last day and some do one must-do a day. There is no right or wrong way and I am there to assist where need be.
Here I am showing you how it works, how students access it and what it looks like from a student point of view. I also attach my iPad to the wall using command hooks so students don't need to take it away and can go to one place to log the information. My students also use the class iPads to log their choices too, with this one being an extra option too.

Simply print these out, put a hole punch in the top corner, attach rings and have them sit on the frames! Students can flip through the charts they need and use them in class. These are made in google drawings on paper size 12x15cm. They are best printed in 4 per page layout, to ensure they are the best matching size for the frames. Charts included: -alphabet chart -sound chart -adjacent consonants chart -100s chart -number formation chart -common words I wanted to find a way of incorporating phonics and word work with fitness in a zoom session. Tricky, I know. Especially with littles! But i devised this cute game that can be played that gets students moving whilst practicing letter recognition.
Before the lockdown commenced I created a parent website that was to help reduce the anxiety and pressure that parents might face being home and having to play the role of 'teacher'. Part of the website has a section on common words that students can use to help test themselves or practice over the lock down. I had just kept all the resources on the home learning website but have decided after many requests to publish the common word resources here. You will find an image to preview you the slides, the link to the youtube recording of the words as a whole and then in a test mode and then a link to the slide deck where you can make a copy of these slides for yourself.
Want to visit the home learning website? You can do here!
I love making fun interactive things that students can use in different ways. Technology can be used in so many ways and it is always fun using something differently to usual - in this case Google Slides. Last year I posted a link to a website post from Kasey Bell sharing a way you can make 'apps' on Google slides. Not really apps, but things that you can click on to go to different places. So fancy hyperlinks. I created some different versions over the years but have release a new one day - targeting junior maths concepts of counting sets and adding simple sets! You can find a link to my other ones below too. Simply click on the URL and copy it to your students to complete at home or assign it as an activity on Seesaw! Can't wait to share this one with my class. The third in the 'let's practice our target words' ebook is now live - targeting blue words (from the ready to read series and colour wheel). This book targets blue words with an interactive ebook that shows students how to form the word they are focusing on, opportunities to hear the word and then a formation of the word for students to trace with their finger, or make in the air. This resource pack is available on my Teachers Pay Teachers Store. The ebook is available to download for free from apple books - but this does not include the task cards.
I love a great word game/activity that increases student word knowledge and quick recall. I am always looking for new ways that engage students and this was definitley one of them. Last week I was scrolling on facebook and saw something similar happening in a classroom. I then created my own activity that my students could complete in class to practice this!
This bundle also includes a small goal template and self-reflection slip that can be used alongside the implementation of this resource. All of these are used in my classroom alongside writing progressions to target student needs and next learning steps. More information coming on how I run my writing programme also.
Not sure how to use the 'let's practice your target words' book? This video shows a quick snippet of how students can use the ebook to help learn key target words. It has parts for listening to the word, writing the word and word formation. This resource then comes with word activities to further support the learning of target words.
Want to see it in action? Check out this website post here!
Even my little new entrants were able to follow the words and write them as they were learning about. Talk about super cute when you can hear them shouting out the word "the" as they write it on the whiteboard.
This resource is available to purchase off my teachers pay teachers store and is super easy to use and implement in your class. Did you know you can create drop down boxes on Google sheets that change attached pictures with your selection? Over the weekend, a colleague and I worked together to create this great new planning template on Google sheets. It has drop down selections that you can choose from, that change a matching icon picture alongside it. Great for planning for students to view and make sense of a tumble. Each picture is colour coded to go alongside with the planning template; and either my Daily 5 resources of my PRISM maths concept resource. These are not customisable templates. However they have all the information you need to successfully go alongside my Daily 5 and PRISM resources. Simply purchase and download the resource, make a copy of it and save it to your Google drive. How I will use it is to duplicate the template for each day of the week, add in the resources or WALHTs that are related and display this on my activeboard. Students will be able to see their group and follow the activities that are set in the tumble. Check out the links below for videos and how you can purchase these resources.

Check out this quick website post sharing some of my personal resources that I will use in the classroom for 2020! Purchase them now while they are on sale.
